[EAI-CARI Joint Virtual Roundtable] U.S.-China Strategic Competition, the Western Hemisphere, and Middle Power Diplomacy
2026-07-01

On June 30, the East Asia Institute (EAI), together with the Argentine Council for International Relations (CARI), held a closed-door virtual roundtable on the theme "US-China Hegemonic Competition, the Western Hemisphere, and Middle Power Diplomacy," bringing together leading diplomatic, security, and international politics experts from both countries. The roundtable featured an in-depth exchange of views on the deepening US-China hegemonic rivalry and the growing uncertainty in the international order that has resulted from it, as well as a wide-ranging discussion of the major challenges facing both countries and possible avenues for cooperation. In particular, the event served as an opportunity to reaffirm that Korea and Argentina are essential cooperation partners with complementary capabilities across a range of global issues, including security, supply chain stability, food security, and climate change response. Building on this discussion, both sides also agreed to further expand policy research and expert exchanges and to strengthen a future-oriented Korea-Argentina cooperative relationship through continued communication and collaboration.
