The Presidential Committee for Unification Preparation, together with the East Asia Institute, held a seminar entitled “A New US Administration and the Peaceful Unification of Korea” on November 11th, 2016 at the Korea Press Foundation. The seminar was attended by experts from the US, China, and South Korea who spoke on the future of foreign policy during Donald Trump’s upcoming term in office, as well as the policy ramifications of the election results for East Asia and the Korean Peninsula. As the participants from each country talked about the possibility that Trump’s actual policies once he takes office will differ from the rhetoric used during the campaign, they assessed the overall implications of the election results for the Korean Peninsula, and emphasized the need to cautiously open up new channels for policy cooperation.
