EAI Working Paper on China's Diaspora Policy
Shen Ding examines how China, facing the challenge of improving its national image to international audiences, embraced soft power and public diplomacy in its diaspora engagement policies during the Xi Jinping era. Ding argues that these new policies helped the Communist government project a more positive image of China abroad by ultimately affecting identity construction of the Chinese diaspora population.

Special Commentary Series on the S. Korea-U.S.-Japan Trilateral Summit
In light of the South Korea-U.S.-Japan trilateral summit in the Hague on March 25, EAI published a special commentary series by Chaesung Chun and Won-Deog Lee to discuss its implications to the current and future regional dynamics. Chaesung Chun highlights that the summit was held amidst the U.S.'s declining leverage in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and East Asia. Chun argues that Seoul should pursue measures to promote trilateral cooperation, as well as resolve Tokyo's problematic perception of history. In response to this, Won-Deog Lee points out the deterioration of relationship between Seoul and Tokyo is based on dangerous misperceptions of the two countries and proposes bilateral engagement at both societal and governmental levels as a solution.
