Ninth Workshop of the "Strengthening Civil Society Organizations in Myanmar 2019-2020" Program: 2020 Burmese General Election Survey Research Program Remote Workshop "Questionnaire Workshop"

EAI has provided ongoing research and institutional assistance to the strengthening of civil society organizations and democracy promotion through the “Strengthening Civil Society Organizations in Myanmar” program since 2015. The ninth workshop of the 2019-2020 program, “Promoting Civil Society Engagement in Myanmar’s Electoral Democracy,” was held online on October 27^th 2020.

 In the ninth workshop, discussions based on partner organizations’ research proposals and questionnaires took place. Before students had the chance to participate in discussions, they acquired theoretical knowledge by reading existing reports produced in Myanmar to develop social research papers related to democracy. Then, the students were engaged in this workshop with Senior Research Fellow Jeong Han-Wool at Hankook Research and Professor Jin Seok Bae at Gyeongsang National University to examine the legitimacy and Myanmar’s democratic consolidation and discuss ways to develop their survey research questionnaires. 

Due to COVID-19, EAI has replaced the ninth Yangon workshop which was scheduled during summer to an online platform with remote workshop sessions. EAI plans to hold further workshops on civil society engagement in electoral democracy in light of Myanmar’s November 2020 general elections for four months. The “Strengthening Civil Society Organizations in Myanmar” program has been supported by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) since 2015.
