“Sharing EAI’s Experience with CSOs in Myanmar”
International Think Tank Capacity Building
Recognizing the crucial role that independent think tanks play in democratic societies, EAI, Sandhi Governance Institute, the Open Myanmar Initiative, and the Renaissance Institute have come together to share their unique experiences with the goal of learning from each other’s capacity building efforts. Throughout the program, EAI will also support government budget monitoring efforts by CSOs in Myanmar.
EAI Fellows Program Selection Committee Convened
EAI is pleased to announce that the Selection Committee for “Fellows Program on Peace, Governance, and Development in East Asia” has convened in order to select the finalists for the 2015-2016 EAI Fellows Program.
“Overcoming the ‘Rich Nation, Strong Military’ Ideology”
Is an out-dated political philosophy driving the leaders of South Korea and Japan? Yul Sohn (Chair of EAI Center for Japan Studies / Yonsei University) surveys the political ideology embraced by the current leaders and argue that both President Park Geun-hye and Prime Minister Abe Shinzo should consider modern concepts of national power in order to find a path towards improved relations.
“Focus on the New U.S.-Japan Guidelines”
The updated version of the “Guidelines for U.S.-Japan Defense Cooperation” is not only another step in the U.S. pivot to Asia, but also a means for Japan’s goal of becoming a “normal nation.” Yong-june Park (Korea National Defense University) dissects the new guidelines, analyzes its potential impact, and offers suggestions on how Korea can cope with this new dynamic in the U.S.-Japan alliance.
2015 EPIK Young Leaders Conference
EAI hosted the 6th EPIK Young Leaders Conference, an international thesis competition for undergraduate and graduate students. Under this year’s theme, "Are conventional boundaries unraveling?" presenters and EAI interns were able to engage each other and expand their understandings toward the various issues raised during the conference.
2015 KF-EAI Korea Friendship Project Launches
EAI is proud to announce the 2015 KF-EAI Korea Friendship project with the sponsorship of Korea Foundation (KF) and Samgyang Holdings. As a unique education and networking program for international students currently studying in Korea, the project offers students to “explore,” “communicate,” and “empathize” with Korea.
