"How do Citizens in Yangon Perceive YCDC’s Management of Water, Street and Stray Dogs?"
Since 2015, EAI has provided ongoing research and institutional assistance to the strengthening of Myanmar civil society organizations. This series of reports was compiled as a part of the “Strengthening Civil Society Organizations in Myanmar Year Three” program. The research for these reports was conducted entirely by EAI’s partner think tanks in Myanmar, including Sandhi Governance Institute, Open Myanmar Initiative, Yangon School of Political Science, Yone Kyi Yar Knowledge Propagation Society, Salween Institute for Public Policy, Another Development, and Naushawng Development Institute. This year, the seven partner organizations established Myanmar Democracy Research Network (MDRN) and conducted a joint public opinion survey on Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC)’s public services.

In the second three papers of Understanding Citizens’ Satisfaction on Public Services part of this series, Sandhi Governance Institute assesses management of water distribution in Yangon City and provides policy recommendations to ensure that clean water is accessible to everyone, regardless of districts citizens reside in. Citizens in Yangon showed different attitudes depending on the issues. In terms of street and streets lights of Yangon city, Yone Kyi Yar argues that citizens have both positive and negative views towards YCDC on the current circumstances of streets. On the contrary, regarding the issue of stray dogs, Open Myanmar Initiative mentions that the current method of controlling stray dog is not welcomed by most of Yangon citizens and YCDC should seek an alternative.
