The KF Korea Workshop is hosted by the Korea Foundation and organized by the East Asia Institute to promote and share understanding of Korean social, political, and economic issues among international residents in Korea. For the fourth lecture of our 2018 2nd KF Korea Workshop Series, EAI and the Korea Foundation invited Professor Jong-Yun Bae, an associate professor in the Department of Political Science and International Studies at Yonsei University to present on the topic “Korean diplomacy in the era of peace on the Korean Peninsula.” Professor Bae is currently serving as the director of the Haesung Institute for Ethics in International Affairs and a member of an advisory committee to the Department of Unification and the National Assembly Research Service. His research interests include Korean diplomacy and Korean unification. Professor Bae summarized the historical and geopolitical interpretations of the development of international diplomacy. He explained the reasons behind South Korea’s diplomatic policies, which are heavily centered on its security issues, and the diverse domestic perspectives regarding these policies. Furthermore, he discussed over the ideal path to the unification of the Korean Peninsula.
