Interviewee: Nergui Banzaarai, the deputy chief of staff of the president

The Mongolian Academy of Political Education has produced this interview with Nergui Banzaarai, the deputy chief of staff of the president, as the third part of the ADRN “Sharing our Practices for Better Governance” video series. Banzaarai speaks of the changes to Mongolia’s political culture that arose from the citizen’s participatory political space, termed “Citizen’s Hall”, that was created following President Ellbegdoj’s inauguration. This space has provided citizens with a direct channel to make requests to the government and greatly increased the transparency and accountability of the policy decision making process, which in turn has given citizens greater knowledge of this process and enhanced their capacity to demand and implement better policy. It provides an excellent case example of how effective direct citizen political participation can be.
