East Asia Institute (EAI) is hosting the KF-EAI Korea Friendship project, sponsored by Korea Foundation (KF) and Samyang Holdings Corporation, offering educational and networking opportunities to international students residing in Korea.
Rah, Theresa, communications director of the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Bidding Committee, gave a lecture about how to effectively promote Korea on the international stage. She began by recounting her younger years living in foreign states for 12 years on account of her diplomat father, being a minority and her resultant experiences introducing Korea to the world as a de facto spokeperson for the country. On the subject of the Olympics, Rah described that “Korea” has evoked limited associations with North Korea or structured social hierarchy in the past. She detailed how she used the theme “New Horizon” to convey what she perceived to be Korea’s energetic disposition and suitability as a host site for the Olympics. In her conclusion, Rah emphasized that, based on the successful experience during the Olympic bidding process, Korea needs to engage more effective communication to adapt the image of itself that it projects to the world.
