The East Asia Institute(EAI) has held the “ROK-U.S. Alliance Conference” since 2008 with the kind support from Pyeongtaek City. This has provided the opportunity for policymakers including government officials and legislative representatives from both countries to share their insights on the ROK-U.S. alliance and future strategies. Along with these officials, leading national security experts from South Korea, Japan, and China have also provided their respective thoughts and policy recommendations. Continuing on from this successful experience, the EAI and CNAS (Center for New American Security), a leading U.S. think tank, jointly held the 2010 conference entitled “ROK-U.S. Alliance: Planning for the Future” on December 15, 2010. CNAS’s defense experts along with South Korea’s foreign and security policy experts discussed the new security challenges the two countries face as well as the future of the ROK-U.S. alliance.
