East Asia Institute (EAI) was ranked No. 65 among all global think tanks in the 2013 Global Go-To Rankings produced by the Think Tanks and Civil Societies program at the University of Pennsylvania. In the annually-produced rankings, EAI was placed highly in eight categories. EAI placed No. 18 among all think tanks from Korea, India, China, and Japan, and EAI was selected No. 84 among non-U.S. think tanks. EAI also ranked No. 55 for foreign policy and international affairs studies among global think tanks. In addition, EAI was globally ranked at No. 54 in four categories: outstanding policy-oriented public programs, best think tank conference, best transdisciplinary research program, and the best use of social networks.

 

In the 2013 rankings, Brookings Institution (United States) was listed at the top among all global think tanks for the second year in a row. Chatham House (United Kingdom) was ranked at No. 2, followed by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace (United States) at No. 3. The Center for Strategic and International Studies (United States), Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (Sweden), Bruegel (Belgium), Council on Foreign Relations (United States), Rand Corporation (United States), International Institute for Strategic Studies (United Kingdom), and Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars (United States) were listed at No. 4~10, respectively. From around the world, 6,826 think tanks were invited to participate in the voting process from August-December 2013. Twenty-five think tanks from Korea, including the Korea Development Institute (KDI), were nominated to be among the world’s top think tanks. Experts from 1,950 peer institutions participated in the 2013 nomination and selection process, which took place over two voting rounds.
