[JEAS] Volume 17, Issue 2
The new issue has arrived!

This issue brings together a number of pieces on China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. We lead, however, with an impressive study of competitive authoritarian rule. Cho, Lee, and Song ask how the media affected support for Park Chung Hee. The finding: that exposure to media only has a liberalizing effect where the media is independent of the authoritarian regime. When media is under government control, the effect is quite the opposite, contributing to authoritarian resilience. The implication is clear: the promotion of independent media is indeed an important tool of democracy promotion. pc   mobile
